Mythical Guru Syndrome

I’ve been online promoting health and wellness for quite some time, and I can tell you I have seen about everything come about in the last six years. Guru’s in all shapes and forms promising you the gold at the end of the rainbow if you spend 25k, 50k, 100k or more a month or year with them.

They will supposedly teach you the exact systems that will help you look better, feel better, work better or even make more money than they do in no time flat. I can quote a few that will talk about “Knawledge” or the like, and yes I did intentionally misspell that, because said individual creeps most folks out with his way of being and damn well it is not a judgment, just reactions I have heard from others.

In the last few years, I can tell you that the true gurus do not self-profess and they are quite humble about where they come from in the world. Folks like to say, well you need to position yourself as the expert, but there is positioning, and then there is straight out lying through your teeth. I know some of you reading this can feel where I am going, but here is a bread trail to the point of this entire post, and that listens to your gut.

If someone comes off as promising too much and has testimonials about all the greatness they have worked with others, I would do my research. I can’t tell you how many folks I have come across who have paid for high ticket consultant coaching, health coaching, business coaching or the like and when they get into the program they have instant buyers remorse.

I know because I spent a huge amount (70k+) of money and learned from the cycle of crashing and burning, so if I can help someone stop from making the same mistakes it would be awesome.

Yes, there are standard business practices that need to be learned, but that can be learned online for free through sites like www.edx.org which will allow you to take college level classes for no fee’s what so ever. If you choose to seek out an actual certificate from a top college, then you can seek them out at your own time.

Additionally, I don’t want to leave you with just doom and gloom. After dealing with coaching associations and coaching at the college level I can give you insight as to what to do if your life feels quite scattered, and you damn well have heard this from other sources, but maybe you didn’t listen, so here it is again on repeat.

Journal- It doesn’t have to be for a long time. In fact, journaling is over complicated by many. 3–5 minutes a day. Get your ideas, goals, thoughts, loves, hates and griefs out on paper. Cross out the non-developmental portions and take what will help you move forward. That is it, and I didn’t have to charge you $497.00 for that or send you a free lint roller. ðŸ˜€
Move- If you move for as little as 15 minutes a day at a moderate rate, you can begin to remove the stagnation in the body. In Chinese Medicine, stagnation is a major contributor to overwhelm, dysfunction and even disease. If you move and move well then you can limit the effects and adaptations you bring about due to stress.
Simplify- Listen, I get it. You need those 25 shoes to match your belt and your outfit, ladies. Even more, you guys just need to have every sports teams jersey this year, but you darn well do not need your high school football jacket anymore. Get simple, reduce, give away and watch your life open up. I’m guilty of it too, but as I journey towards a better more minimalist existence, I can attest to you that we do not need half the crap we think we do. Added, if you ever move you’ll make your life a whole heck of a lot easier.
If you have these in place and are still having challenges add a fourth one to the list, and that is what do I really want to do? Write it out in detail adding little bits daily to it, until you have a description of what you want your days to be like, who you want to impact, and how you want to live your life. I’m not telling you to jump off a cliff; I am asking you to remove the social mask we like to hide behind and be real. We often get so caught up in being motivated or grinding that we don’t take time for ourselves. This is how you get truly inside of your heart, head, and soul. Then, you can act and become resourceful. As Tony Robbins often says, it is not a lack or resources but a lack of resourcefulness that keeps many stuck. What do you desire to be in this world? Give it a few moments and keep practicing.

That’s all, for now, folks. If you like my musings or would like to get in touch for a session you’re invited to do so. Heck, if you’d like to drop a comment below you can also do so. Finally, if you’d like to read this and go on your way, well, you’re already gone, but I wish you well.
